Sail Biomedicines, a Flagship Pioneering company, announced a strategic collaboration with Johnson & Johnson to advance in vivo CAR-T therapies for immune-mediated diseases.
J&J also obtained an exclusive option to acquire Sail for an additional $2.58 billion.
The collaboration will combine Sail’s pioneering AI-driven product design using its proprietary eRNA and targeted nanoparticle platform with J&J’s world-class capabilities in drug development, manufacturing and commercialization. The companies will advance Sail’s vanguard in vivo CAR-T program in autoimmune diseases while pursuing additional programs.
Per the partnership deal, J&J will make total initial payments of $785 million, including a $465 million equity investment, and additional payments of $140 million dependent on the achievement of certain development milestones.
Sail was formed in 2023 when Laronde merged with Senda Biosciences — two Flagship Pioneering companies — combining endless RNA with programmable nanoparticle technologies to develop a pipeline of in vivo cell therapies.
