Legend Biotech announced that Ying Huang, Ph.D., has stepped down as CEO and as a member of the Board of Directors, effective as of July 24, 2026.
In an SEC filing, Legend stated that Huang’s resignation “was not the result of any disagreement with the company on any matter relating to the company’s operations, policies or practices or the company’s financial statements or internal controls over financial reporting.”
The board has appointed Alan Bash, current president of the Carvykti business unit, as interim CEO while the board launches a comprehensive search process to identify a permanent successor.
Huang, who has served as CEO since 2020, will remain as an advisor through August to support a smooth transition.
Legend is perhaps best known for its partnership with Johnson & Johnson, which paid $350 million upfront in 2017 to license what would become the blockbuster CAR-T cell therapy Carvykti. In 2023, Novartis also partnered with Legend, paying $100 million upfront for rights to a portfolio of CAR-T candidates.
